the Illustrators’ Exhibition

Please note: This is the BookFair organised competition. It is NOT the SCBWI competition.

The Bologna Children’s Book Fair Illustrators’ Exhibition is an international showcase on display throughout the fair. Selected illustrations are published in the Illustrators’ Annual shared with exhibitors at the fair and publishers across the globe. The exhibit has been curated by the fair since 1967.

To submit your work for consideration for the exhibition, it is important you follow the instructions here.

Pleae note, an online entry form is required. After applying online, illustrators will receive a confirmation email. The entry form must be sent along with 5 pieces of original artwork. Art must be based on the same theme and numbered 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Entries that do not have exactly 5 illustrations will be disqualified. Follow the size regulations on the website. Send illustrations to the address on the entry form.

SCBWI members are given extra time to submit their work. While the deadline for the general public is October 4, 2017, SCBWI members are eligible to submit through December 1, 2017 – (the postmark date serves as proof).  Simply make sure your SCBWI membership is up-to-date and write “SCBWI member” on the outside of your submission packet. There is no fee to submit to the exhibition. Artists selected for the exhibit will be given a free pass to the fair.

Everyone who submits artwork is eligible for discounted entry to the fair.

Participants under the age of 30 are also entered into the competition for the Bologna Children’s Book Fair – Fundación SM International Illustration Award whose winner receives 30,000 €, a book publication and a solo exhibit at the next Bologna Children’s Book Fair.

In addition to applying to the exhibition, illustrators can take part in free events at the Illustrators’ Survival Corner during the fair, including portfolio reviews, workshops, masterclasses and much more. Events require reservation. Visit the Survival Corner in Hall 26 on the opening day of the fair to register.
